Visiting Torres del Paine in winter is a unique experience. From May to September, the park’s tranquility and absence of crowds allow you to enjoy almost empty trails and increase your chances of spotting wildlife such as guanacos, foxes, and pumas. The snow-capped mountains and late sunrises create a magical and photogenic environment, perfect for photography and nature lovers.
Although temperatures can drop to -7°C and reach highs of 5°C, with the right equipment you can enjoy the park without worrying about the cold. Winter is less windy than summer, allowing you to see crystal clear reflections in the lakes. The daylight hours, from 9 AM to 5 PM, are ideal for exploring without having to get up early. "Our group of 5 booked three full days of tours through Great Chile. The actual operator was Whipala and they were fabulous. Make sure you have WhatsApp loaded as they create a “group” for each tour, informing you what to wear/bring and pick up details. In Atacama be prepared for VERY rough roads, early morning pick ups and long travel times, but each destination is well worth the time. We could have skipped the afternoon three lagoons tour, but Chaxa Lagoon (a different day) is absolutely not to be missed. We had 4 driver/guides over the 5 total tours (Ernesto, Alex, Javier and Manuel) and every one was amazing. They not only are well versed in the history and geology of the area, but are passionate about Atacama and clearly communicate that in excellent English."
