Live an authentic gaucho experience in Patagonia, riding through pampas, forests, rivers and rural landscapes on a half-day horseback ride from Puerto Natales.

The Half-Day Patagonian Horseback Ride takes place on an estancia in the Tres Pasos area, a rural setting surrounded by wide pampas and the landscapes typical of Chile's far south.

Over approximately 3 hours on horseback, you'll follow rural trails and old tracks used on the estancia, crossing open pampas, stretches of native forest and small streams. You'll be accompanied throughout by local guides, on horses matched to each rider's experience.

The ride brings you closer to gaucho culture and traditional life on Patagonian estancias, letting you take in the landscape at an easy pace and away from the busiest tourist circuits.

On clear days, the route also offers panoramic views of the Paine massif, making this ride a great option if you're looking for nature, photography and a different kind of adventure near Puerto Natales.

No previous riding experience is needed. The activity is suitable for beginners, and before setting off you'll receive the instructions you need to ride safely.

Itinerary

9:00 or 14:30 - Meeting time at the stable

Welcome, meet the horses and gear up, and sign the liability waiver.

9:45 or 15:15 - Briefing

Riding and safety briefing, practice in the corral, and then the ride begins. We'll enter and ride across Estancia Lucía, a working cattle ranch. We'll ride through forests, cross rivers, and climb up and down hills to reach a viewpoint overlooking the Paine massif, if the day is clear. You'll immerse yourself in rural Chilean Patagonia and learn about the local way of life and how the horses are handled.

12:30 or 18:00 - Return to the stable

We'll unsaddle the horses and turn them loose. End of the excursion.

  • Distance: approx. 12 km on horseback.
  • Difficulty: moderate. No previous riding experience required.
  • Minimum age: 12 years.
  • Maximum weight: 95 kg per person, a limit set to protect the horses' well-being.
  • Safety: you must follow the guide's instructions at all times.
  • Route: the ride takes place on natural terrain and includes trails, changes in elevation and simple stream crossings. The route may be modified due to weather, terrain conditions, safety or the horses' well-being.
  • Important: there is currently no phone coverage in the area where the activity takes place.
  • What to bring: warm, sturdy and waterproof clothing, closed and firm footwear, sunscreen, water and any personal medication you may need. Down jackets are not recommended.
  • Optional: you can bring a carrot or an apple to reward your horse at the end of the experience.
