Un estrecho sendero de montaña que atraviesa el bosque de lenga en el valle del Ascencio.

There we will receive an introductory briefing from our guide. Start of the hike. We take the path heading toward the Valley and, after a 10-minute walk, we cross an old suspension bridge over the Ascencio River.

Base Las Torres

About 150 meters further on, a fork appears: to the left it leads to the Base of Las Torres. Then follows a steep zigzag with sparse vegetation for an hour. The ascent continues, passing alongside another stream, and after 45 minutes you reach Camping Chileno on the opposite bank of the Ascencio River, in the shade of a lenga forest, with a moderate slope, crossing several streams that fall from Almirante Nieto.

The winding dirt path of the Chileno trail climbing through the Ascencio Valley toward the granite towers.

After about an hour and 10 minutes from Camping Chileno, at 700 meters above sea level, you reach the foot of the moraine that gives access to the viewpoint.

From this point, the trail becomes steeper. First it runs alongside a stream and under the shade of the small trees on the edge of the moraine, but higher up the trail fades away and you must continue climbing among the rocks, some of which are marked to show the route. After about half an hour from the sign at 700 meters above sea level, you reach the eastern end of the lagoon, from where you have a wonderful view of the three towers (Central, Monzino, Dagostini) and of the Peineta and Nido de Cóndores peaks.

After resting and having lunch in this extraordinary scenic setting, unique on the planet, we begin our return along the same trail until we reach the starting point, where our driver will be waiting to head back to Puerto Natales at the end of the day.

"Lovely guide Maria (great knowledge of flora/fauna). Bus ride had great music. Trail was crowded and paying 3-day pass for 1-day trip was annoying."
