This great stretch of sea owes its name to the "last hope" of finding the Strait of Magellan in 1557, for an expedition that was looking for it from the Pacific Ocean.

A navigation through the Ultima Esperanza fjord towards the Bernardo O'Higgins National Park allows us to see the Serrano and Balmaceda glaciers. On the way it is possible to appreciate the spectacular flora and fauna.

The Ultima Esperanza Sound or Fjord is admired not only for its beauty and the biodiversity of species that live in it, but also for being a landscape built and shaped by the advance and retreat of large glacial areas approximately 19,000 years ago.
