Sail between Puerto Montt and Puerto Natales through Chile's southern channels
Experience one of the most scenic sea journeys in Chilean Patagonia aboard Navimag's Esperanza ferry. This route connects Puerto Montt and Puerto Natales across roughly 1,700 km of navigation, traversing channels, fjords, southern passes and remote landscapes that can only be appreciated from the sea.
During the journey, passengers can enjoy a unique experience surrounded by mountains, forests, islands, glaciers, seabirds and the vastness of the Patagonian fjords. It's an ideal alternative for those who want to reach or leave Patagonia in a different, unhurried way, deeply connected to nature.
The voyage takes place aboard the Esperanza ferry, a vessel built especially for Navimag in 2019. It has capacity for 200 passengers, cabins of different categories —from the most economical option in shared rooms to higher-category private cabins— and comfortable common areas to take in the scenery throughout the crossing.
The published price corresponds to the shared option, which is the most economical alternative available. If you're interested in travelling in a private room, we can request a quote based on availability and cabin category.

Itinerary
During check-in, the port staff will receive your luggage for safekeeping. If you are travelling with a vehicle, you will be given the information needed to guide the boarding process. Once on board, the crew will hold a welcome briefing with relevant information for a safe and enjoyable voyage. The ferry will then set sail towards Puerto Natales, beginning the journey through the fjords of Patagonia. The navigation will begin through the Reloncaví Sound and the Gulf of Ancud. At nightfall, the ship will enter the Apiao Channel and, later, the Corcovado Gulf.
Dawn will find us navigating through the southernmost area of the Corcovado Gulf. During the afternoon, the vessel will head out to open sea to begin, at nightfall, the ocean navigation to the north of the Gulf of Penas. This open-sea crossing lasts approximately 12 hours. Along this stretch, and depending on natural conditions, it is possible to spot humpback, minke and blue whales.
The day will begin navigating among fjords and crossing the Messier Channel. Along the route you will be able to see the cargo ship Capitán Leonidas, run aground since the 1970s on a submerged islet known as Bajo Cotopaxi. Further on, the navigation will continue through the English Narrows until reaching Puerto Edén, a settlement located on Wellington Island, one of the largest islands in Chile. This place is known for being home to one of the last Kawésqar communities in the country. The stop at Puerto Edén is brief and is made solely for the boarding and disembarking of residents. The navigation then continues through the Patagonian channels.
During the final stretch of the journey, the navigation will continue through the Morla Vicuña Channel until reaching the Kirke Passage, located approximately 50 kilometres west of Puerto Natales. This passage is one of the most important maritime routes in the area and connects with the Almirante Montt Gulf, from where the vessel will continue until finally arriving at the city of Puerto Natales.
